Today was our harvest thanksgiving service, and our talented team used this all-age service to look at the topic of grateful giving. They took as their Bible passage the story of Zaccheus, the rich tax-collector who climbed a tree to see Jesus over the heads of the crowd. Unpopular as they collected taxes on behalf of the Roman overlords, and given to demanding more than their due – which they could do with impunity – tax collectors were not favourites with the people. But Jesus invited himself to lunch with this man, which proved a life-changing experience for him as he gave away half his possessions with a joyful heart. Paul had these closing words to say after a dramatic presentation to which an audio recording cannot do justice.
